October 14, 2004Google Desktop SearchI apologize for the plug but I wouldn't mention it if I didn't find this tool incredibly cool... Google Desktop Search radically changed the way I search on my computer. Check it out! Posted by cedric at October 14, 2004 09:36 AMComments
Yep it seems a very nice tool. My single complaint about it is that Desktop search is not able to index also mbox type mail. ./the_mindstorm Google already searches my mail for me, what I'm after is some kind of plugin API so I can teach it to index custom application types. Sort of like a google powered Beagle / Dashboard. Posted by: Michael Koziarski at October 14, 2004 08:03 PMIt's only for Windows so I can't use it. Sad ... Posted by: Lars Fischer at October 15, 2004 12:39 AMGreat speed but why did they choose a web interface? It could have been done so much better as a rich client tightly integrated with the desktop. Posted by: Glen Stampoultzis at October 15, 2004 06:16 AMI you like speed check out Fundamentally the way I search my computer is so different than the way I search the Internet I don't see how one model can work for both. When I'm on google.com I'm normally trying to search for information. When I'm on my computer I'm trying to locate information. Maybe I just don't have enough stuff on my computer that I don't see the usefulness of Google Desktop. Posted by: Tinou Bao at October 15, 2004 08:47 PMI wish I could get it to work. After I install it both IE and FireFox cease functioning so then I cannot get to the preferences page since it is web based. A simple de install and things are fine. weird Posted by: Smitty at October 17, 2004 06:17 AMfunny video mockumentary about college kids who are addicted to using google at http://www.collegeiseasy.net Posted by: Troy at October 17, 2004 06:43 PMGoogle desktop search searches for files on harddrives - this is a pure file search technology not really directly eCommerce related. It would be amazing is they also incorporated p2pMarkets.com patented technologies. p2pMarkets.com searches for tangible electronic eAssets in the possession of humans. if GDS also had such capabilities I bet eBay would have to be watching their step Post a comment
