In his search for It, Ernst Eller locates a planet that seems to have a civilization advanced enough to provide him a spaceship with an intergalactic hyperdrive. The planet, called Sceddo, is populated by telepaths who are planning an exodus because their sun is casting radiations causing all males to become sterile. Initially greeted in a friendly way, the Sceddans decide to kill Ellert when they realize that he is hosting two personalities.

Ellert manages to escape and finally finds a spaceship. He takes off, heading for the direction where he last heard It's impulses coming from.
